INS Viraat

INS Viraat served in the British Navy as HMS Hermes between 1959 and 1984. It was later commissioned into the Indian Navy for 29 years before being decommissioned in 2017. The aircraft carrier was to be dismantled by a shipbreaker in Gujarat. The Supreme Court ordered stopping of futher dismantling of this ship in response to a petition by a group that offered to buy the carrier and convert it into a museum.
