Initiatives to prevent disruption of farming activity during lockdown

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare has launched several initiatives to promote farming during lock down.

Highlights

The Ministry had allowed imports of more than 1.25 lakh metric tonnes of chemicals used in farming. The Agricultural and Processed Food products Export Development Authority (APEDA) focused specially on the transport of major exports in the country such as meat, diary, poultry and other organic products. Also, APEDA helped in resolving packaging units and curfew passes.

What are the initiatives?

  • The Certificate of Registration to indigenous manufacturing, raw materials for industrial units involved in chemicals (used in agriculture) were provided through Virtual Private Network (VPN).
  • The National Conference on Kharif Crops-2020 is to be conducted through video conference on April 16, 2020.
  • The Indian Railways introduced 67 new routes for parcel services. These routes are to be used to supply essential commodities such as agricultural inputs, horticultural produce and dairy products.
