Infosys Prize Shifts Focus to Early-Career Achievements, Adjusts Age Limit
The Infosys Science Foundation (ISF) recently made big changes to the Infosys Prize, with the goal of recognizing early careers more. The age limit for prize winners has been lowered from 50 to 40 years old as of May 15. This means that more people can now enter. This change changes the focus of the award from a mid-career honour to an early-career honour. The goal is to find and recognize new academic talent and the promise of future success.
What is the Objective of the Prize?
The main goal of the Infosys Prize is still to recognize excellent research that not only leads to scientific and social progress but also creates role models for India’s next generation of scientists and scholars. The goal of the prize is to bring attention to people whose creative work is likely to have a big effect on society.
Adjustment in Prize Categories
Another important change is that Economics is now its own area, whereas it used to be part of the Social Sciences. The Infosys Prize will be given out in six different areas starting in 2024: Economics, Engineering & Computer Science, Humanities & Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences.
Foundation’s Vision
Kris Gopalakrishnan, President of the Infosys Science Foundation (ISF), said that the foundation’s goal is to inspire a new group of young scientists and academics. This is why the Infosys Prize is being changed in this strategic way. In the past 15 years, ISF has honoured 92 outstanding people from a wide range of fields. People think that the change in the prize’s direction will encourage new ideas and encourage young people to work toward a better future. These changes show that the Infosys Science Foundation is changing its plan to do more than just reward excellence. Its new goal is to get more young people involved in science in a useful way.
