India’s First E-Waste Clinic in Bhopal

India’s First e-waste clinic opened at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. It is jointly set up by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC). The process would enable segregation, processing, and disposal of waste from both household and commercial units. This will be a 3-month project. The project if successful will be implemented in other parts of the country as discussed by the CPCB officials with the BMC officials. The present system did not enable us to estimate the garbage and they will be sent to Bangalore.

The process will initiate with door to door collection in two ways. Either separate carts for the collection of e-waste will be designed, or separate bins will be attached to existing ones meant for solid and wet waste. The clinic is being conceived in compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016. However, in the absence of a safe disposal mechanism, electronic waste is being disposed of along with other waste. Therefore a suitable and sustainable method will be identified soon.
