India’s first Drone Air Traffic Management System
Skye Air is a startup delivering drones in different parts of India. The startup recently launched a Traffic Management System for drones. It is software and will allow drone operators to choose their routes. Just like flight traffic management, the need for drone traffic management is increasing. With e-commerce businesses looking for options for drone deliveries, drone usage is to increase in the future exponentially.
Skye UTM: Drone Traffic Management System
The air traffic management system designed by Skye air is called Skye UTM. This is the first of its kind in India. UTM stands for Unmanned Traffic Management. It will provide BVLOS drone operations. BVLOS is Beyond Visual Line of Sight, meaning you can operate your drones safely to far away places without even seeing them physically.
How does Skye UTM work?
It gets information from the Digital Sky Platform. It is run by GoI and has information about all drone operators and drone flights in the country. The platform is run by DGCA, Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
Highly competitive
So far very few countries in the world have such drone traffic management systems. For instance, the AirMap company in the US has this kind of traffic management system. And also, the Airbus of Netherlands has designed such a system.
