India’s Contribution to UN Women
USD 500,000 has been contributed by India to the UN Women, the United Nations agency for women empowerment and gender equality.
Overview:
- The contribution was made by India to reaffirm the country’s valued partnership of gender parity and development that are women-led.
- India will be working with the UN Women to further boost their relationships.
- This amount has been contributed towards the core budget of the Un Women.
- The amount was handed over by T. S. Tirumurti, India’s permanent representative to the UN to Dr. Sima Bahous, the Executive Director of UN Women.
About UN Women
The UN Women or also known as the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women is an entity working under the United Nations for women’s empowerment and gender equality. This organization works for the rights of girls, women, and LGBTIQ+. It also focuses on issues related to violence against women and LGBTIQ+ people.
UN Women became operational in 2011 with the merger of the United Nations Development Fund for Women and other entities. The inaugural executive director was Michelle Bachelet, the former President of Chile. The current executive director of this organization is Sima Sami Bahous. This organization is also a member of the United Nations Development Group.
