Indian Railways to run completely on Electricity by 2024

On Monday, 27th January 2020, the Union Minister of Railway and Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal announced that the entire network of Indian Railways which is about 1,25,000 km of track length and nearly 68,000 km of route length is set to run on electricity by the year 2024 since diesel locomotives are gradually been pushed out of service. Once achieved, India will have the first railway network in the world to run completely on electricity.

At India- Brazil Business Forum which was organized during the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro’s official visit to India from 26th January to 27th January, the Railway Minister said that he hopes to make the entire railway’s network a net-zero emission network by the year 2030 which will use clean energy and clean power and also happily told about India’s partnership with Brazil for infrastructure development. The bilateral trade target of 15 billion dollars has been set up by both the countries’ to be achieved by 2022.
