Indian Railways installs most advanced Electronic Interlocking System
Indian Railways has installed the most advanced Electronic Interlocking System on the Grand Chord route, one of the busiest section of railways. This most advanced and safer Electronic Interlocking System was installed at Tundla Junction in Uttar Pradesh by railways as part of upgradation process.
Key Highlights
This new Electronic system has replaced outdated 65-year old Mechanical Signalling System at Tundla Junction in UP on the route.
The introduction of advanced system is expected to help railways to speed up trains and achieve the goal of reducing travel time between Delhi and Howrah to nearly 12 hours from existing 17-19 hours. Besides improving the punctuality of trains on New Delhi-Howrah mainline, the work will also have manifold benefits during incoming foggy season through safe and detention free handling of trains at Tundla Junction.
Why Tundla Jn.? It is an important station on this super-saturated route that operates 160% of its designed capacity. Tundla was having 613 route combinations which is only 2nd to Kharagpur in South Eastern Railway with 800 routes.
About Grand Chord route
Grand Chord is part of Howrah-Gaya-Delhi line and Howrah-Allahabad-Mumbai line. It acts as a link between Sitarampur in West Bengal and Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction in Uttar Pradesh (UP). A lot of important trains pass through this route which connects national capital with eastern region of country. It covers a stretch of 450 kilometres falling in North Central Railway Zone (NCRZ).
