Indian Navy Receives Third ACTCM Barge
The Indian Navy celebrated a significant achievement on November 30, 2023, with the delivery of the Third Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile (ACTCM) Barge, LSAM 17 (Yard 127). The ceremony was graced by the presence of Shri Shankar Mukharjee, INAS, AGM NAD (Karanja).
Indigenous Pride: “Make in India” Initiative
This state-of-the-art barge stands as a proud flag bearer of the “Make in India” initiative by the Ministry of Defence. All major and auxiliary equipment/systems used in the LSAM 17 have been sourced from indigenous manufacturers, emphasizing the commitment to bolstering domestic production capabilities.
Collaboration with MSME Shipyard: Aatmanirbhar Bharat in Action
The contract for the construction and delivery of 11 Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile (ACTCM) Barges was successfully concluded with M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd, an MSME based in Thane. This collaboration aligns seamlessly with the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative of the Government of India. Notably, M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd has already delivered two such Barges, showcasing their capabilities in contributing to the nation’s self-reliance goals.
Compliance with Indian Register of Shipping Rules
The construction of these Barges adheres to the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. This commitment to quality underscores the dedication to delivering top-notch maritime assets.
Operational Boost for the Indian Navy
The availability of ACTCM Barges is expected to provide a substantial boost to the operational commitments of the Indian Navy. These Barges will facilitate the efficient embarkation and disembarkation of articles and ammunition to IN Ships, both alongside jetties and at outer harbours. This enhancement in logistical capabilities is crucial for maintaining operational readiness and effectiveness.
