Indian fringe-lip eel

Indian fringe-lip eel or Cirrhimuraena indica is a newly discovered species of snake eel found at the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal. It belongs to the genus Cirrhimuraena, family Ophichthidae and order Anguilliformes. This is the second such discovery in the Odisha coast after the finding of Odishi moray, a snake-like fish in 2018. Before Odishi moray was discovered, India was known to host only one species of brown short unpatterned eel called Gymnothorax mishrai.
