Indian Bio – Jet Fuel Technology

The Indian Bio – Jet Fuel Technology was developed by CSIR – IIP. The fuel is to be used on military aircraft of Indian Air Force. The use of the fuel was certified by the Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification.

What is Bio – Jet Fuel?

The Bio – Jet Fuel is prepared from non – edible tree borne oil. It is procured from tribal areas of India. The bio – jet fuel is produced from Jatropha oil. It is sourced from Chattisgarh Biodiesel Development Authority.

Where was Bio – Jet Fuel tested?

The Bio – Jet Fuel technology was tested in Leh at an altitude of 10,652 feet above the sea level. Leh was selected as it is one of the world highest and most difficult operational airfields. It is difficult to operate an aircraft even during clear weather in Leh. The proximity of mountains, raefied atmosphere and turbulent winds make it difficult to fly an aircraft here.

What are the benefits of Bio – Jet Fuel?

  • The Bio – Jet fuel helps to decarbonize medium and long-haul air travel. Also, it extends the life of the aircrafts by lowering their carbon footprint.
  • The Jatropha based bio – jet fuel produced by India is capable of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 50% to 80%.
