Indian Art, Architecture & Design Biennale 2023
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the first-ever Indian Art, Architecture & Design Biennale (IAADB) 2023 at the historic Red Fort on December 8, 2023.
Flagship Global Cultural Initiative
The IAADB is a result of the Prime Minister’s vision to establish a flagship Global Cultural Initiative in India, akin to international biennales in Venice, Sao Paulo, Singapore, Sydney, and Sharjah. This initiative is aligned with a nationwide campaign to revitalize museums and develop cultural spaces in five major cities: Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Varanasi.
Aatmanirbhar Bharat in Focus
During the inauguration, the Prime Minister will also unveil the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Centre for Design at Red Fort. This center aims to showcase India’s unique and indigenous crafts, fostering collaboration between artisans and designers. It aligns with the ‘Vocal for Local’ vision, promoting sustainability in the cultural economy.
Samunnati
In addition to IAADB, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the student Biennale, named Samunnati. This initiative provides a platform for students to showcase their work, engage with peers and professionals, and gain exposure within the architecture community. The Lalit Kala Akademi will host Samunnati, featuring design competitions, heritage displays, installation designs, workshops, and more.
Week-long Cultural Extravaganza
IAADB, scheduled from December 9 to 15, 2023, will host theme-based exhibitions each day, fostering a holistic conversation among artists, architects, designers, photographers, collectors, and the public. The week’s themes include:
