Indian Army Sets Up Highest Tank Repair Facilities in Ladakh

Since April to May 2020, when China sent troops to the border, the Indian Army has been present in Eastern Ladakh more than before. Over 500 tanks and infantry battle vehicles, including Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles made in India, are used in this area, which is known for its harsh climate and difficult terrain.

Establishment of High-Altitude Maintenance Facilities

The Indian Army built two of the world’s tallest tank repair centres so that these armoured units can keep working. These sites are located in Nyoma and the DBO Sector and work at heights above 14,500 feet. Due to the difficulties of maintaining and fixing cars in such harsh conditions, these Medium Maintenance (Reset) Facilities are very important.

Infrastructure Enhancement for Armoured Vehicles

The army has been focusing on building the right facilities to house modern military equipment such as the T-90 and T-72 tanks, BMPs, and K-9 Vajra self-propelled howitzers. They work hard to make sure the equipment works even when it’s very cold outside (-40 degrees Celsius is common in the winter).

Continued Standoff and Response

The standoff between India and China has been going on for more than four years, and each country has about 50,000 troops in the area. India and Tibet agreed to the McMahon Line as their line in 1914, but the LAC has no legal standing or clear basis in international law. Various interpretations of the LAC lead to violations and standoffs, such as the war in 1962, the battles in 2013 and 2017, and the fight in the Galwan Valley in 2020.
