Indian Army Launches ‘Eklavya’ Online Learning Platform

The Indian Army has introduced an online learning platform named Eklavya, which coincides with the “Decade of Transformation” and the Year of Technology Absorption in 2024. General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Army Staff, inaugurated the platform.

Development and Hosting

Eklavya was developed by the Headquarters Army Training Command. The Army War College provided essential support. The Bhaskaracharya National Institute of Space Applications and Geoinformatics (BISAG-N) in Gandhinagar created the platform at no cost. It is hosted on the Army Data Network.

Scalability and Registration

The platform is designed to be scalable, which allows the Army to add various training establishments easily. Officers can register for multiple courses simultaneously. Currently, 96 courses are available from 17 key training establishments.

Course Categories

Eklavya offers three main course categories. The first is Pre-Course Preparatory Capsules, which include study materials for physical courses. They aim to cover basics, allowing for more advanced practical content during physical training.

Assignment-Related Courses

The second category is for appointment or specific assignment-related courses. These short online courses are tailored for officers in specialised roles. Topics include information warfare and financial planning. They enhance efficiency and support career development.

Professional Development Suite

The third category is the Professional Development Suite, which includes courses on strategy, leadership, and emerging technologies. These courses aim to encourage continuous learning and skill enhancement.

Knowledge Highway Feature

Eklavya features a Knowledge Highway, a searchable space for journals, research papers, and articles. It supports ongoing professional education for officers. It also reduces crowding in physical courses and promotes specialisation in military fields.
