India-US 2 plus 2 Ministerial Dialogue
India and the United States will be holding a 2 plus 2 Defence and Foreign Ministry dialogue on 11th April 2022 in Washington. In this annual meeting, the fourth of its kind, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will be participating.
Overview:
- Talks will be held with the United States’ Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
- Under the Biden administration, this will be the first such dialogue to be held.
- On 11th April 2022, PM Modi will be holding a virtual meeting with the President of the US Joe Biden to review the ongoing bilateral cooperation of both countries.
- Following the dialogue, a pact on Space Situational Awareness will also be signed.
Topic of discussions
In this dialogue, topics like the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between India and the US will be discussed. Other topics related to science, defence, technology, emerging technology, public health, climate, COVID-19 pandemic management, etc will be discussed. In this dialogue building and fortifying supply chains will also be given importance. India will also be talking about the rise in commodity prices due to the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
Bilateral meetings
Along with the 2 plus 2 dialogue, the Foreign and the Defence Ministry will also be holding bilateral meetings. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be discussing major defence-related deals with Lloyd Austin, Defense Secretary. The purchase of 30 Predator armed drones by India will be a major talking point in this meeting. Also, the tender by the Navy for 26 decks-based fighter aircraft for INS Vikramaditya, and INS Vikrant will also be discussed. The deal for buying six more P-8I maritime patrol aircraft will also be talked upon.
