India to host 36th International Geological Congress

The International Geological Congress(ICG) is a mega event organized once in every four years since its inception in Paris in the year 1878.
The 36th edition will be organized in India’s capital New Delhi from 2nd-8th March next year. The International Geological Congress has 45 themes, that cover all aspects of our planet, Earth.
The IGC is the global prestigious platform for the advancement of Earth Science and has grown into a truly global event over the years. From 41 paper contributions and 312 participants from 22 countries in the first ICG, it has been witnessed global importance to 6012 delegates from 123 countries participating in the 34th edition held in Australia’s Brisbane in 2012.
The previous edition was held at Capetown, South Africa in 2016. India has earlier hosted the 22nd IGC in 1964 which was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
The Geological Survey of India will be the nodal agency in organizing the event, and the event will be funded by the Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Earth Science with the support of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) and National Science Academies of Nepal, Srilanka, and Bagladesh.
