India Showcases Tourism at WTM London 2024
The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, is currently participating in the World Travel Market (WTM) in London from November 5-7, 2024. The UK is an important source of inbound tourists to India, with nearly 0.92 million visits in 2023.
Indian Diaspora in the UK
The UK has a large Indian diaspora, around 1.9 million people. This community plays a crucial role in promoting tourism to India. The Government of India aims to engage this diaspora to invite their non-Indian friends to explore India.
India Pavilion at WTM 2024
The India Pavilion at WTM showcases India’s cultural diversity and tourism offerings. It features a delegation of nearly 50 stakeholders, including state governments, tour operators, and hoteliers. The pavilion marks niche tourism experiences like spiritual wellness, adventure, and gourmet tourism.
Focus Areas of the Pavilion
This year’s focus includes MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), Mahakumbh, and Wedding Tourism. A mock Mandapam, representing an Indian wedding, is part of the exhibition to engage visitors.
Participating States and Stakeholders
Various states are represented, including Uttarakhand, Goa, Kerala, and Rajasthan. Each state showcases its unique tourism experiences. Key participants include state tourism departments, airlines, and destination management companies.
The India Pavilion was inaugurated by Shri Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India, and Ms. Mugdha Sinha, Director General of the Ministry of Tourism. They were joined by tourism ministers from Odisha, Telangana, Goa, and Uttarakhand.
Chalo India Initiative
The Chalo India initiative encourages the Indian diaspora to promote tourism to India. The diaspora can invite friends to visit through the Chalo India portal. Visitors may receive a gratis e-tourist visa as an incentive.
Incredible India Digital Portal
The Ministry of Tourism launched the ‘Incredible India Content Hub’ on September 27, 2024. This digital repository serves various stakeholders, including tour operators and journalists. The portal aims to enhance the travel experience for visitors.
India’s Tourism Growth
India is the fastest-growing major economy globally. The country is focused on sustainable tourism and aims for net-zero emissions by 2070. The G20 leadership year brought into light India’s tourism potential.
India is enhancing its tourism infrastructure, including hospitality and aviation. These improvements position India for tourism growth. The commitment to the G20 Goa Roadmap aims to develop sustainable and eco-friendly tourism destinations.
