India-Qatar Start-Up bridge
On June 5, 2022, the Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu launched the India-Qatar Start-Up bridge.
Highlights
- During his visit to Qatar, Vice President met Prime Minister as well as Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani.
- Both the leaders reviewed increasing bilateral ties between both the countries in areas of trade, investment, security cooperation and economic cooperation.
What is India-Qatar Start-up bridge?
India-Qatar Start-up bridge is a joint initiative, launched with the aim of linking the start-up ecosystems of two countries as well as helping their economies mutually. This initiative was launched as Vice President Naidu addressed the members of business community, at India-Qatar Business Forum. This initiative is likely to help in boosting business sectors mutually.
India-Qatar Business Forum
India-Qatar Business Forum was jointly held by FICCI, ASSOCHAM and CII, in association with Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It witnessed the participation of leading businessmen from India and Qatar. This forum is likely to result in new networking opportunities for trade and investment between both the countries.
Trade and investment between India and Qatar
Qatar’s FDI in India stands at USD 450 million. These is a huge potential for increasing these investments. Invest India and Qatar’s Investment Promotion Agency have agreed on cooperation for promoting two-way investments between Qatar and India. In financial year 2021-22, the bilateral trade crossed USD 15 billion. Apart from that, Qatar has committed to invest over USD 2 billion in various Indian companies in past two years.
50 years of Diplomatic relations
India and Qatar are all prepared to celebrate the 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between both. Diplomatic relations both the countries were established in 1973.
Recent Conflict
Recently, Qatar summoned Indian Ambassador to launch protest against controversial remarks of Nupur Sharma & Naveen Jindal on Prophet Muhammad. Qatar was demanding public apology from India in this matter.
