India plans on ayurvedic Trials for COVID-19; Task Force Constituted

Several states in India such as Kerala, Goa and Haryana have started to use ayurvedic medicines to save asymptomatic patients. In order to achieve this, the Ayush Ministry has sought suggestions from homeopathy and Ayurvedic practitioners in the country.

Highlights

The experts that were sought for suggestions have submitted more than 2000 proposals. A task force has been formed for scientific validation of ayurvedic and traditional medicine formula to shortlist the protocol. The Task force consists of members from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Department of Biotechnology (DBT).

After verification, these trials are to be used in asymptomatic patients and then on non-severe patients.

Current Scenario

Currently, the Hydroxychloroquine drug is being used as a preventive measure for asymptomatic patients. The drug has several side effects.

The traditional medicines were used by China and was a great success in the country. They were used along side allopathic drugs according to ICMR. With these proven successes, India is to adopt ayurvedic and other traditional approaches.
