India Hosts Global Cooperative Conference 2024

India is set to host the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) General Assembly and Global Cooperative Conference in Delhi. The event runs from November 25 to 30, 2024, and marks a historic first for India in the 130-year history of ICA. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the ‘United Nations International Year of Cooperatives 2025’ on November 25.

The conference will gather around 3,000 delegates, and approximately 1,000 participants will travel from abroad. Notable guests include Bhutan’s Prime Minister and Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister. Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will lead the opening session.

Over 100 countries are expected to participate. Some nations may require additional approvals. The Ministry of External Affairs is managing these protocols.

India’s Cooperative Landscape

India hosts 25% of the world’s cooperatives. There are about eight lakh cooperatives across the nation. This event showcases the strength and diversity of Indian cooperatives.

Environmental Initiatives

The conference aims to be environmentally friendly. Ten thousand peepal trees will be planted to achieve carbon neutrality. Only vegetarian food will be served, and alcohol will be prohibited.
