India First Asian country to Participate as “Guest of Honour” in the Second Largest Book Fair in the World
Union Minister of State (MoS) for Human Resource Development (HRD), Sanjay Dhotre, inaugurated the Indian Pavilion at the Guadalajara International Book Fair 2019. Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi,’Let Our Lives Be Open Books’ is the theme of the Indian pavilion. The book fair started on 30th November and will continue till the 8th December 2019.
India became the first Asian Country to participate as the ‘Guest of Honour Country’ in the second largest book fair of the world.
The Guadalajara International Book Fair, organized by the University of Guadalajara, is the second-largest book fair in the world, after Frankfurt book fair.
First started in 1987, this year marks the 33rd edition of the international book fair.It is the biggest book fair in the world for the Spanish speaking community.
Guadalajara is a city in Mexico.
Indian publishing house, The National Book Trust (NBT), is participating as the nodal of the Government of India in this fair.
NBT is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) founded in 1957. The New Delhi World Book Fair, India’s second oldest book fair after the Kolkata book fair is being organized by the NBT since its inaugural year 1972. The 2020 New Delhi World Book Fair is scheduled to be held in January at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
