India- EU Trade and Technology Council – Current Updates (May, 2023)

The India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) is set to hold its first Ministerial meeting in Brussels on 16 May.

Co-Chairs and Launch of TTC

The Ministerial meeting will be co-chaired by S Jaishankar, Piyush Goyal, and Ashwini Vaishnaw. The India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) was initiated when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen jointly introduced it during her visit to India in April 2022. This council signifies the commitment of both sides to strengthen their bilateral relationship.

Establishment of Working Groups

Under the TTC, three working groups were established to focus on specific areas of cooperation:

  • The first working group concentrates on strategic technologies, digital governance, and digital connectivity.
  • The second working group emphasizes green and clean energy technologies
  • The third working group focuses on trade, investment, and resilient value chains.

Objective of the Ministerial Meeting

The Ministerial meeting in Brussels aims to strengthen economic and technological ties between India and the EU. It provides a platform for high-level discussions and collaboration on various aspects of trade and technology cooperation. The meeting serves as an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding and explore avenues for further engagement.
