India-China 22nd Meeting of the Special Representatives with focus on ‘Boundary Question’

With focus on taking forward the developmental partnership between the two countries, the special representatives from India, led by the National Security Advisor of India, Ajit Doval met the special representatives from China, led by their State Councillor and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi on Saturday, 21st December 2019 at New Delhi.
Earlier in October this year, during the 2nd Informal Summit between the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and the President of China, Xi Jinping, directives were provided for Closer Developmental Partnership between the two countries, as per the directives, constructive talks between the Special Representatives was concluded with focus on reaching an early settlement to the boundary question, that serves as a fundamental interest for both the countries.
During the meeting, for the strategic perspective of both the countries, the Special Representatives reviewed the progress made since the 2nd Informal Summit in October and recognized the importance to promote communication and exchanges between the border personnel, thus agreeing to work towards more Confidence Building Measures(CBMs) to ensure strategic communication and predictability in border management. The Special Representatives emphasized their view on the stable and equal development of the bilateral relations between both the countries as a positive factor for prosperity and peace of the region and the world.
In order to build mutual trust for the bilateral relations to develop, there was a consensus between both sides to respect each other’s concerns and sensitivities.
