India announces its priorities for UNSC

India is expected to be elected as member of United Nations Security Council for an eighth term. In order to secure the elected seat, India has launched a brochure that lists the priorities of India at the UNSC.

Highlights

The brochure was released by the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The brochure has set out five key priorities. They are new opportunities for progress, reforming the multilateral system, effective response to international terrorism, comprehensive approach to international peace and promoting technologies with human touch.

India also emphasised that during this tenure India will work towards achieving NORMS (New Orientation for a Reformed Multilateral System).

Approach of India

India’s approach at the United Nations Security Council is to guided by the 5s that were set out by PM Modi. They include Samvad (Dialogue), Samman (Respect), Shanti (Peace), Sanriddhi (prosperity) and Sahyog (cooperation).
