India and Liberia Strengthen Bilateral Ties

India and Liberia recently held their inaugural Foreign Office Consultations in Monrovia, aimed to enhance bilateral relations across various sectors. Key officials from both nations participated, encouraging a collaborative environment for discussions.

Key Participants

Sevala Naik Mude, Additional Secretary of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, co-chaired the meeting. Liberia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, represented Liberia. The consultations included high-level engagements with other Liberian officials, including Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung and Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto.

Both nations reviewed their cooperation in trade, investment, mining, agriculture, health, education, and capacity building. They emphasized the importance of enhancing people-to-people exchanges to strengthen their relationship further.

Digital and Energy Initiatives

India and Liberia agreed to boost cooperation in Digital Public Infrastructure. They also identified energy development as important area for collaboration. Development assistance was brought into light as a key factor in advancing mutual interests.

Both sides expressed mutual support for each other’s candidacies for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the term 2028-29. This commitment puts stress on their dedication to working together on global governance issues.

African Union and G20 Membership

Liberian ministers acknowledged India’s efforts in advocating for the African Union’s permanent membership in the G20. They recognised that this inclusion would enhance the Global South’s influence in international forums. Liberia’s active participation in the Voice of Global South Summits further demonstrates its commitment to collaborative global initiatives.
