India and Kuwait Establish Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC)

India and Kuwait have recently signed a Memorandum of About (MoU) to enhance their partnership. This agreement established a Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) at the foreign ministers’ level, which took place during Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al Yahya’s official visit to India.

Formation of the Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC)

The JCC aims to encourage collaboration between India and Kuwait, which will create new Joint Working Groups. These groups will focus on trade, investment, education, technology, agriculture, security, and culture. The JCC will also oversee existing groups related to hydrocarbons, health, and consular matters.

Official Visit of Kuwaiti Foreign Minister

Abdullah Ali Al Yahya’s visit marked his first official trip to India as Foreign Minister. He met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening ties with Kuwait. Modi praised Kuwait’s leadership for prioritising the welfare of Indian nationals.

Discussions on Key Issues

Jaishankar and Al Yahya engaged in extensive discussions. They covered various topics including trade, energy, and food security. The talks also included people-to-people connections. They exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

Acknowledgement of Indian Community in Kuwait

Jaishankar congratulated Kuwait for its leadership of the Gulf Cooperation Council. He expressed gratitude to Al Yahya for his support towards the Indian community in Kuwait. This marks the importance of the Indian diaspora in strengthening bilateral ties.

Al Yahya described India as an essential partner for Kuwait. He expressed hopes to elevate the relationship to a strategic partnership. He commended PM Modi, recognising him as a wise leader who has advanced India’s global position.
