India-Afghanistan sign MoUs

On July 5, 2020, India and Afghanistan signed five Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) to develop educational infrastructure in four provinces of Afghanistan.

Highlights

The five MoUs were signed under the High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) that are being implemented by the Indian Government in Afghanistan. The agreement was signed by the Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar and Afghan Economy Minister Mustafa Mastoor.

About the MoUs

The agreements signed were related to construction of higher education buildings and road construction within Albironi University campus.

About HICDP

Under HICDP, the Government of India has committed 200 million USD of support since 2005. Of these, 400 projects were completed and the remining were are construction.

India has taken up development projects in Afghanistan since 2001. India has completed development projects that are worth 3 billion USD so far. In 2016, India pledged to include another 1 billion USD under the “New Development Partnership” scheme.
