India conducts military exercises with many countries around the globe having strategic importance. The purpose of these exercises is to provide training to soldiers in how to act, how to think, and how to work together in times of conflict and at the same time it facilitates the coordination as well as cooperation among friendly militaries of the world. It also provides an opportunity to test the precision of weapons and devices. Following are the neighboring countries with which India conducts military exercises –
Mitra Shakti
This military exercise is conducted between India and Sri Lanka. The exercise aims to build and promote positive relations between armies of India and Sri Lanka for counter-insurgency & counter-terrorism operations in the urban and rural environment.
Surya Kiran
This military exercise is conducted between India and Nepal. The purpose of this exercise is to train soldiers of both countries in counter-insurgency operations in the jungle and mountainous terrain and also practised response mechanism in the eventualities of natural and man-made disasters.
Hand in Hand
It is a joint military exercise between India and China. The major objective of the joint military exercise is to promote mutual cooperation in the fight against terrorism. The purpose of this exercise is to build and promote strong relations between the armies of India and China.
Sampriti
It is between India and Bangladesh. The purpose of this exercise is to strengthen and broaden the interoperability and cooperation between the Indian and Bangladesh‘s armies.
Bongosagar
It is a bilateral naval exercise between India and Bangladesh. The second edition of which commence on 3rd October 2020 in Northern Bay of Bengal. It’s aim is to develop interoperability and joint operational skills through the conduct of a wide spectrum of maritime exercises and operations.
