IMD releases a report titled ‘Mid-Monsoon 2019 Lightning’
The report titled ‘Mid-Monsoon 2019 Lightning’ has been prepared by Climate Resilient Observing Systems Promotion Council (CROSPC), a research body of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). It’s a first-of-its-kind report on lightning incidents in India. As per report, in the 4-month period between April and July, Odisha recorded the highest number of lightning strikes in the country, followed by Maharashtra with 6.26 lakh strikes and Karnataka with 6.21 lakh. The lightning strikes have caused at least 1,311 deaths. UP recorded the highest casualties with 224 deaths, followed by Bihar (170), Odisha (129) and Jharkhand (118).
