What is a Local Electrode Atom Probe (LEAP) microscope?
A Local Electrode Atom Probe (LEAP) microscope is a type of microscope that uses a finely pointed tip to detect individual atoms and molecules. It is a high-resolution imaging tool that allows scientists to study the structure and composition of materials at the atomic level. In a LEAP microscope, a sample is placed in a high-vacuum chamber and a voltage is applied to the sample. This causes the atoms in the sample to emit electrons, which are detected by the microscope’s tip. The information collected by the tip is then used to create a three-dimensional image of the sample at the atomic level.
