IIT Madras Aims to Make India Global Chess Powerhouse

The IIT Madras Center of Excellence in Sports Science and Analytics (CESSA) just recently announced a plan to make India the world’s most important chess hub. The news was shared at the “Sports Tech Start-Up Conclave” in New Delhi.

Recent Developments

Several important plans were presented at the conclave, which was sponsored by well-known companies such as Dream Sports, Vedanta, and SFA Play. The main ideas behind these are using cutting-edge technology to promote chess in India, get more fans involved, and stop cheating in the sport.

Government and Institutional Support

Sandip Pradhan, who is the Director-General of the Sports Authority of India, backed this idea with all his heart. He talked about how proud the country is of IIT Madras for being at the forefront of this tech-driven sports change. Prof. V. Kamakoti, the director of IIT-M, also talked about how high-performance computing and artificial intelligence can help improve how people learn to play chess, which requires a lot of pattern recognition and planning.

Educational and Training Programs

IIT Madras CESSA isn’t just interested in technology; they also want to make a big difference in teaching and training sports. The center is getting ready to start new classes on the NPTEL (National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning) platform. These courses will focus on improving skills needed in the sports industry. The goal of these training programs is to help athletes, coaches, and other related staff by giving them more knowledge in sports science and management.

Future Plans

IIT Madras CESSA has big plans for the future to add many new training programs. There is a Bachelor of Science in Sports Science and a Master of Arts in Sports Management. Future sports professionals will be able to get the skills and information they need to do well in this growing area through these programs. There are also talks going on to add certificate programs in AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning) and Data Science that are especially designed for use in sports. The goal of IIT Madras CESSA is to make India the best chess country in the world and beyond by combining cutting-edge technology with all-around educational programs.
