Hunar Haat resumes operation after 7 months gap due to COVID-19

Hunar Haat has restarted from November 11 after a gap of around seven months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To mark the beginning of operations, Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi inaugurated ‘Hunar Haat’ at Delhi Haat, Pitampura. The Hunar Haat is being organized by the IITF, Pragati Maidan from November 11 to 22. The theme of this Hunar Haat is “Vocal for Local”. As the name suggests, local products made from Metal, Maati (clay), and Machiya (wooden and jute products) are the major attractions of the event. Other than this, products made from cane-bamboo and pottery work can also be seen at the event. More than 100 stalls have been set up at the haat.

Restart of Hunar Haat

• At the event, the Union Minister pointed out that every corner of India has an ancestral and traditional legacy of native products and needs promotion. These products were on the verge of extinction but have got boost with PM Modi’s call for Swadeshi products.
• Naqvi also said that the Indian indigenous industry has seen an improvement PM Modi’s idea of “Vocal for Local”. This is also helping to strengthen the mission of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
• He also added that Hunar Haat has provided more than 5 lakh jobs to craftsmen, artisans and others in the last 5 years.
• In this event, people will also be able to buy the hunar haat products online.

About Hunar Haat

Hunar Haat is an exhibition of traditional products and handicrafts launched by Ministry of Minority Affairs in 2017. It was launched under Upgrading the Skills and Training in Traditional Arts/ Crafts for Development (USTTAD) scheme. As of now, the Minority Affairs Ministry have organised over 2 dozen Hunar Haats and provide lakhs of job opportunities. Next, the Hunar Haat will be organized in Chandigarh, Jaipur, Lucknow, Indore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, New Delhi, Surat, Kota and Ranchi.
