How did Holland define ownership?

[Jurisprudence]
Holland defines ownership “as a plenary control over an object”. Ownership , he says , is exercised, in its primary sense of the term, a man may be owner of a patent for an invention. The object owned is in either case described as ‘property’. He further observes that the term ‘ownership’ and ‘property’ are sometimes also used in a third, and still looser sense. The sum total of a man’s fortune, including not only the objects of which he is owner, but also the value of any claims which he may have against other persons, after deducting the amount of any claims which he made good against himself, is described as his ‘property’ and he is said to ‘own’ it.
