Historian Ramachandra Guha resigns as BCCI Administrator

Historian Ramachandra Guha has tendered his resignation as BCCI administrator citing personal reasons. He submitted his resignation letter to Chairman of the Committee of Administrators of the BCCI Vinod Rai on May 28.
Ramachandra Guha was one among the four administrators appointed by the Supreme Court on January 30 to run the affairs of BCCI. The four member committee was headed by former Comptroller and Auditor General Vinod Rai. The other two members are managing Director of Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC) Vikram Limaye and former Indian women cricket captain Diana Edulji. 

Background

In its earlier order of January 2, 2017 the Supreme Court had removed Anurag Thakur as BCCI president, Ajay Shirke as BCCI secretary and disqualified all the board and its state association office bearers after they had failed to implement new norms set by the Justice Lodha Committee. The apex court held that Mr. Thakur and Mr. Shirke are unfit to continue at helm of BCCI for their obstructionist attitude and their incapacity to make affiliated State associations fall in line with Lodha committee.

Ramachandra Guha

Ramachandra Guha is a famous historian and writer. His research interests include social, political, environmental and cricket history. He also writes as a columnist in various newspapers including The Telegraph and Hindustan Times. His famous works include Gandhi Before India (2013), Patriots and Partisans (2012), Makers of Modern India (2010), India after Gandhi: The history of the world’s largest democracy (2007) etc.
He has been awarded with Padma Bhushan in 2009, (2009), Sahitya Akademi award in 2011 for India After Gandhi. For year 2011–12, he had also served as the Philippe Roman Chair of International Affairs and History at the London School of Economics.
