Hindus named best-educated religious group in U.S.
According to the new study titled Religion and Education Around the World released by Pew Research Centre, Hindus are the best-educated of all religious groups in North America and Europe. In contrast, Hindus who live in India are one among the least-educated of all religious groups worldwide. Around 96% of the Hindus in the US were found to have college degrees compared to 36% of Christians, who are in majority in the US. In addition, Hindus in the US were found to have 15.7 years of schooling on average, which is nearly three years more than the average American adult. Similarly, Hindus in Europe were found to be highly educated with 13.9 years of schooling on average.
On the flip side, overall around the world, Hindus have achieved the lowest level of educational attainment of any major religious group. Hindus were found to have only 5.6 years of schooling on average. In addition, 41% of Hindus were found to have no formal education. Also, Hindus were found to have the greatest educational gender gap of any major religious group. Hindu men were found to have 2.7 more years of schooling than Hindu women. The study also found that 53% of Hindu women to have no formal schooling at all.
