Himachal Pradesh Launches New Development Schemes

The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, introduced six new schemes during an event in Bilaspur to celebrate the second anniversary of the Congress government. The initiatives aim to enhance agricultural practices, support education, and improve rural livelihoods.

Him Bhog Atta Initiative

The “Him Bhog Atta” scheme promotes natural farming by providing maize flour sourced from organic maize. The government purchased 398 metric tonnes of maize from 1,506 farmers across ten districts. Direct bank transfers of Rs 1.20 crore were made to the farmers, ensuring financial support.

Organic Compost Scheme

A new scheme was launched to buy organic and vermin compost at Rs 300 per quintal, which aims to assist small farmers and livestock owners. Additionally, payments of Rs 1 lakh were made to 100 farmers through direct benefit transfers to boost their incomes.

Electric Taxi Subsidy Programme

Under the Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Start-up Scheme 2023, keys were handed over to 16 electric taxi owners. These owners received a 50% subsidy for purchasing e-taxis, which will be leased to government offices. The state plans to issue about 150 permits for e-taxis in the first phase.

Indira Gandhi Sukh Shiksha Yojana

The Indira Gandhi Sukh Shiksha Yojana was launched with Rs 1.38 crore distributed to 5,145 beneficiaries. This scheme supports the education of 23,000 children and provides monthly aid of Rs 1,000 for children under 18. It also offers financial assistance for higher education to vulnerable families.

HP Shiva Project

The Rs 1,292 crore Himachal Pradesh Subtropical Horticulture, Irrigation and Value Addition Project (HP Shiva) was announced. This project targets horticulture development across seven districts and will cover 6,000 hectares, aims to produce 1.3 lakh metric tonnes of fruit annually by 2032, benefiting over 15,000 farming families.
