High-intensity earthquake hits Hindukush region in Afghanistan

A high-intensity earthquake has struck the Hindukush region in Afghanistan.
As per India Meteorological Department (IMD) this earthquake was having magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale and had occurred at a depth of 210 km with its epicentre in the Hindu Kush region.
The tremors of this earthquake were felt in several parts of North India including Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi. Tremors were also felt across the border in Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad Peshawar and Sargodah in Pakistan and in the Gilgir-Baltistan region in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and the bordering regions of Afghanistan.
Geologically this north western region is situated in a highly vulnerable earthquake zone. In the past several earthquakes had caused devastation in this region. In 2005, an earthquake of 7.6 magnitude on Richter scale had killed more than 40,000 people in both parts of Kashmir in India and Pakistan.
