Health Ministry launches WHO India Country Cooperation Strategy
The Union Health Ministry has launched the ‘World Health Organisation (WHO) India Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) 20192023: A Time of Transition‘.
Significance:
- It helps in providing a strategic roadmap for the WHO to work with the Indian government towards achieving its health sector goals.
- It focuses on improving the health of its population; and bringing in transformative changes in the health sector.
- The period of this CSS is expected to bring rapid changes to India’s health sector and to improve access to quality healthcare, especially to the vulnerable and underserved population.
Country Cooperation Strategy
The CCS builds on other key strategic policy documents including India’s National Health Policy 2017 which have many initiatives that have introduced recently like Ayushman Bharat programme, National Viral Hepatitis Programme and promotion of digital health and others.
The CSS is one of the first that fully aligns itself with the newly adopted WHO 13th General Programme of Work and its ‘triple billion’ targets, the Sustainable development goals and WHO South-East Aisa Region’s eight flagship priorities.
