Haryana to Host the Khelo India Youth Games 2021
The Ministry of Sports has announced that Haryana is going to host the 4th edition of the Khelo India Games in 2021. Star Sports will be the official broadcast partner of the games for this year also just like the previous editions.
Haryana has been at the forefront in the medals tally in the Khelo India Youth Games since its inception and the state has topped the tally also with 102 medals (38 Gold, 26 Silver and 38 Bronze). The state has also been home to many talented athletes who have gone on to make India proud in the international competitions such as the Olympics and the World Championships.
The tournament started in 2018 with the inaugural edition being held in New Delhi and the 2019 edition was held in Pune. This year, the sports bout was organized in Guwahati, Assam.
What is Khelo India Youth Games?
Formerly known as the Khelo India School Games, is normally held in the month of January or February every year, for various disciplines in two broad categories – Under 17 and Under 21 Categories. Every year, the best 1000 kids are provided with an annual scholarship of Rs 5 lakhs for 8 years so that they can prepare for the international sporting events. The idea of this is to select talented players in various disciplines at a very tender age so that they can be nurtured and groomed by experienced coaches properly.
