Guru Gobind Singh Birth anniversary Celebrated
On January 2, 2019, India celebrated the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh. He is considered to be the 10th Guru of Sikhs. He was born on January 5, 1666.
Guru Gobind Singh
Guru Gobind Singh founded Sikh Warrior community called Khalsa in 1699. He introduced five Ks in Sikhism. It is called the “Panj Kakar”, They are uncut hair (Kesh), an iron bracelet (kara), a wooden comb (Kangha), 100% cotton undergarment (Kachera) and iron dagger (Kirpan).
In Sikhism, the holy text Dasam Granth is dedicated to Guru Gobind Singh. Guru Gobind Singh was the only son of the ninth Sikh Guru Bahadur. He was made the 10th Guru at the age of nine when his father was beheaded for not following Islam. His sons were killed by the Mughals.

Guru Nanak founded Sikhism in 1469 and was the first Sikh Guru. He was succeeded by nine gurus. Guru Gobind Singh was the last guru of Sikhism. In 1708, the guruship was passed on to the holy sikh scripture Guru Granth Shib. According to Sikh, the holy text is now the living Guru for the followers of Sikhism.
