Gujarat Achieves 95% of NITI Aayog’s TB-Free Target

In 2024, Gujarat made strides towards eliminating tuberculosis (TB) under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative. The state has achieved a remarkable 95 per cent of the target set by NITI Aayog for TB registration and treatment success.

Achievements

Gujarat was tasked with identifying and registering 145,000 TB patients in 2024. The state successfully registered 137,929 patients. Of these, 124,581 patients completed their treatment, achieving a 90.52 per cent treatment completion rate. The government has also provided treatment facilities to 131,501 registered TB patients.

Financial Support for Patients

To alleviate the financial burden on TB patients, the Gujarat government has implemented the Nikshay Poshan Yojana (NPY). The Nikshay Poshan Yojana is part of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program. It provides a financial incentive of Rs 1,000 per month for each notified TB patient during their anti-TB treatment. The funds can be distributed in cash or in-kind, ensuring that all eligible patients receive the necessary support.

Nutritional Support Initiatives

Gujarat has registered 10,682 Nikshay Mitras on the Nikshay portal, distributing 349,534 nutrition kits to TB patients. This initiative ensures that patients receive both medical treatment and proper nutrition.

Intensive TB Eradication Campaign

To enhance early detection and treatment, the Government of India launched the “100-Day Intensive TB Eradication Campaign” in December 2024. Gujarat has included 16 districts and four municipal corporations in this campaign. As of March 20, 2025, approximately 35.75 lakh people have been screened for TB, leading to the identification of 16,758 new patients.
