Gujarat to import water soluble fertilizers from China
The Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation (GAIC) will import water-soluble fertilizers from China. So far, the state agency has imported 300 tonnes.
Highlights
The GAIC agency will import, pack and sell the water-soluble fertilizers to farmers. The new fertilizers have been named AGRO. These fertilizers are best suited for precision agriculture. As Gujarat has a good land area under drip irrigation, the fertilizers are being distributed at the right time. Gujarat has the maximum land under drip irrigation of all the states in the country.
The fertilizers are to be used to produce fruits and vegetables that will match global standards. The step will also aid in achieving GoI’s target of doubling farmer’s income by 2022.
Precision Agriculture
Precision agriculture is the farming management concept that uses inputs such as pesticides, nutrients, water and seeds in a strategic way. In other words, the inputs are used at minimal amount to get maximum output.
GAIC
GAIC acts as a catalyst in implementing government schemes to boost agro products. The Ministry of Agriculture has appointed GAIC as the nodal agency to implement its schemes in the state of Gujarat.
It works to reduce agro product wastage, increase farmers’ returns, enhance productivity of crops, accelerates demand based agricultural production.
