Guadeloupe is an archipelago in the Caribbean that comes under the overseas department and region of France. Guadeloupe consists of various uninhabited islands and six inhabited islands. In a recent study that has been published on the island, it states that due to the arrival of the colonists from Europe caused around 50 to 70% reptile to go extinct on the island.

The study was conducted by carbon dating and studying the fossils of the reptiles in and around the islands. The study states that the extinction of the reptile population occurred over the last five hundred years.
