Green India Mission
Launched in 2015, Green India Mission is the Central Government’s afforestation initiative aimed at protecting, restoring and enhancing the country’s forest cover. It also focuses on carbon sequestration and emission reduction. Its objective is to increase forest cover on 5 million hectares of forest/non-forest land and improve forest cover’s quality on another 5 million hectare area. The recently released Economic Survey revealed that this 10-year scheme achieved just 2.8% of its plantation target.
