Govt raises retirement age of Vice-Chancellors of 9 State universities from 65 to 70
- The govt has passed an ordinance that has raised the retirement age of Vice-Chancellors of 9 State universities from 65 years to 70.
- The ordinance will amend Tamil Nadu Universities Laws with effect from July 14, 2012.
- Currently, the Vice-Chancellors of Bharathiar, Bharathidasan, Mother Teresa Women’s universities, Alagappa University, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Periyar University, Tamil Nadu Open University, Thiruvalluvar University and Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, can serve to the office up to the age of 65 as per the Acts of these universities.
- The amendment made is on par with the Central Universities Act, 2009.
