Govt proposes to build storage facilities for steady flow of foodgrains under Food Security Act

The Central Govt is planning to set up intermediate grain storage facilities at block level in each state.
Objective:  To ensure steady flow of foodgrain under the National Food Security Act.
Funding: Entirely centrally sponsored. Centre will provide Rs 450 crore while the land for construction will be given by the states that are willing to come up with these facilities.
The proposed storage facilities will be constructed under the MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act). The plan to build storage facilities under MGNREGA will need an amendment in Schedule 1 of MGNREGA.
