Govt. Allows Export of Masks and Medical Goggles

The government has relaxed the norms for export of face shields, certain kind of surgical masks and medical goggles which are mainly in demand due to the spread of the COVID 19 disease all around the world. The shipments of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) with an export quota of 50 lakh units per month have been permitted by the government.

It is in line with the Atmanirbhar Bharat program of the PM Narendra Modi since this will promote Make in India and also industrial growth. There will be no restriction on the export of face shields from India. It has also allowed outward shipments of 2/3 ply surgical masks and medical goggles, but with certain conditions. Earlier, the export of these items was banned because of the spread of the COVID 19 crisis all around the world.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has given this permission though it has been made clear that all other items that are part of PPE kits cannot be exported now also.

It is the agency of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Government of India tasked with administering laws regulating foreign trade and foreign investment in India. It also formulates the Exim guidelines and principles for Indian importers and Indian exporters of the country. It was earlier known as Chief Controller of Imports and Exports.

It also implements the Foreign Trade Policy of the government with the primary objective of promoting exports from the country.
