Government to set up Fast Track Court for Rape, POCSO cases
In a written reply to Lok Sabha on Friday, 6th December 2019, the Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smriti Zubin Irani informed that the Department of Justice under the Ministry of Law and Justice of Government of India as formulated a scheme on the lines of other centrally sponsored schemes on setting up of Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs) for the expeditious trial and disposal of rape cases and cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences(POSCO) Act.
A total of 1023 Fast Track Special Courts will be set up at an estimated cost of Rs 767.25 crore, out of which the Central government will pay Rs 474 crore.
Out of 1023, 218 Fast Track Special Courts are proposed to be set up in the most populated state of India, Uttar Pradesh.
