Governing Council Meet of National Productivity Council held

The 49th Governing Council Meeting of the National Productivity Council was chaired by Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal.

Highlights

The meet of the National Productivity Council operating under DPIIT (Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) was held through video conferencing. The meet was attended by more than 180 participants. This included trade union leaders, leaders of financial institutions, academicians and other eminent personalities.

The meet was held on the MSME day.

Outcomes

The meet concluded that India can revive itself from the COVID-19 crisis only through productivity enhancement. Suggestions were made to formulate action plans for the council. The suggestions were mainly in agriculture and logistics sector. Also, it intended to identify champion sectors that has potential to drive the economy and adopt technologies that will increase productivity. Also, the sectors that deliver cost effective solutions to marginalized sectors were identified.

National Productivity Council

The Council was established to promote productivity in culture in India. It was established by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in 1958. It is also a constituent of the Asian Productivity Organisation (APO). The APO is an intergovernmental body.

The NPC celebrates its foundation day as the Productivity Day on February 12. The National Productivity Week is also observed between February 12-18 every year.
