Gotabaya Rajapaksa wins Sri Lanka presidential Polls
On 17 Nov, Gotabaya Rajapaksha, a former defense secretary and intelligence officer has won Sri Lanka’s presidential elections. He was also accused of committing human rights violations. He defeated his main opponent, Sajith Premadasa of the ruling United National Party (UNP). He won with more than 52% of the nearly 16 million possible votes. His campaigns were based on platform for national security and Islamist terrorism the Easter recently in which hundreds of people were injured and around 250 people were killed.
